01

Why do app store screenshots matter so much?

People look at an app's pictures before they read a word. Apple and Google want their own sizes, so most small apps make the set once in a rush before launch and never touch it again.

Apple and Google want their own sizes, and every update means doing it again. So the screenshots get made once, in a rush before launch, and never touched after.

A good set is a short story in ten frames: one message per screenshot, real screens, one look, in files you can update in minutes.

02

Raw screen grabs, a template site or a launch kit - which is better?

Raw grabs come straight off your phone and a template site puts your screens in a stock frame. The App Store Launch Kit gives 10 screenshots per store with one message each, real phone mockups and a 4K feature reel.

What is in the App Store Launch Kit?

The App Store Launch Kit gives you 10 App Store screenshots at 1284x2778, 10 Play Store screenshots with the feature graphic, a phone mockup set, spin-up clips, a 4K launch reel of about 35 seconds and layered Photoshop files.

  1. 01

    10 App Store screenshots

Made at 1284x2778 for the 6.5-inch iPhone slot, one headline each, on your real screens.

  2. 02

    10 Play Store screenshots

The Android set in the same design with Android phone frames, plus the Play feature graphic.

  3. 03

    A phone mockup set

Your best screens inside a real phone, on several background colours and on a transparent background.

  4. 04

    Spin-up clips

Short videos of each phone turning into frame, for reels and your website.

  5. 05

    A launch reel

One feature shown doing its job in your app's own pixels, about 35 seconds, in 4K.

  6. 06

    Editable files

Layered Photoshop files, so the next update is swapping a layer, not starting again.

06

Is the App Store Launch Kit right for your app?

The App Store Launch Kit suits an app that is built or close to launch, listing on the App Store, Google Play or both, with raw screen grabs today. It is the wrong buy before you have an app, or while your screens change weekly.

A good fit if

  • Your app is built or close to launch
  • You are listing on the App Store, Google Play or both
  • Your current screenshots are raw screen grabs

Not for you if

  • You do not have an app yet
  • You want a full paid advertising campaign
  • Your screens change every week and are not settled

Asked and answered

Ten App Store screenshots, ten Play Store screenshots, a set of phone mockups and one launch reel, for £899. The screenshots tell one message each across your best screens; the mockups put your app inside a real phone as stills and short spin-up clips; the reel shows one feature working in about 35 seconds. Every file comes layered and editable. The app itself and the store submission are not included - that is App Development.

We make the screenshots at 1284 x 2778 pixels, a size Apple accepts for its 6.5-inch iPhone slot. Apple lists every accepted size on its screenshot specifications page, and Google sets its own rules for screenshots and the feature graphic. We build both sets on the same canvas so they look identical. That is how the GigXchange listings run: one design, two stores, no second version drifting out of date.

Yes - each screenshot is a layered Photoshop file with the headline, the phone screen and the background on separate layers. When your app changes, you swap the screen layer and export; nobody has to rebuild the design. If you would rather we did it, small updates are quoted per change. On GigXchange that is how the store images stay current: an edit in Photoshop, not a fresh set from scratch every release.

No - if you launch on one store first, the second set is ready for when you add the other. Making both at once in the same design saves doing the work twice and keeps the two listings matching. GigXchange went live on Google Play first and the App Store after, using the same screenshots on both. The kit price is the same either way, because the design work is the larger part.

The launch reel is a vertical video of about 35 seconds showing one feature of your app doing its job, captured from the real app rather than mocked up. It works as a launch post on Instagram, TikTok and YouTube Shorts, and as a clip on your website. The rule it is built on: show the real thing at its best, never a dressed-up fake. To keep posting in the same look after launch, the Social Content Retainer carries it on.

Seven working days from the day we can open your app. Days 1-2 we capture screens and agree the ten messages, days 3-4 we build both store sets, day 5 the mockups, and days 6-7 the reel. What slows it down is an app that is still changing, because every changed screen means a new capture. If your screens are settled when we start, the dates hold.

We need a test account and a build we can open - a TestFlight invite on iPhone, a test track on Android, or the web version if you have one. We never need your Apple or Google developer passwords. Screens show sample content you approve, never real customer names or messages, because store screenshots are public and stay up for years. If you are still building the app, App Development covers the build itself.

You can, and for a first test it is fine. What a template does not give you is the story - ten frames that each sell one thing - or a matching Android set, mockups and a reel in the same look. You also rebuild everything in the tool every time the app changes. If the store page is where most of your customers first meet you, it is worth getting right once, in files that last.
